Thousands of Tibet supporters gathered in Taipei yesterday for a marathon concert organized by civic groups as part of a series of activities to commemorate the 1959 uprising in Tibet. Chanting “Free Tibet” and “Long live the Dalai Lama,” the crowd waved banners and Tibetan flags.

Dear friends,

On Wednesday, October 17, 2007, the Dalai Lama will be making a free and public address on the west lawn of the Capitol.  Speaker Nancy Pelosi just helped pass a bill that gave ICT use of the west lawn and west steps of the Capitol to allow for this event!

The Dalai Lama will be receiving the Congressional Gold Medal from Speaker Pelosi, Congressional leadership and the U.S. President in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda at 1:00. This will be simulcast on a jumbotron onto the West Lawn of the Capitol.  At 2:20, Richard Gere will make a few remarks, and at 2:30, Speaker Pelosi will escort the Dalai Lama from Capitol to the West Lawn, where he will give an address.

Human Rights Without Frontiers Int'l is calling upon Heads of State, Prime Ministers, Royal Families, the Heads of the European Institutions, the members of the European Parliament and of national parliaments to ignore any invitation coming from Beijing to attend the Olympic Games in 2008.

 
This appeal was made public by Willy Fautré, the director of Human Rights Without Frontiers Int'l, at the International Symposium on Human Rights in Tibet organized on 8-9 September in Taipei, by the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission with Taiwan Culture Foundation and Taiwan Friends of Tibet.

To commemorate the 48th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day, a rally and march was held in Taipei, Taiwan. Organized jointly by the Taiwan Tibetan Welfare Association (the main organization representing the community of Tibetans in Taiwan) and Taiwan Friends of Tibet, the event drew over 100 participants.
