The Fall edition of Toastmasters Times is finally published!

Many members have asked me whether we are continuing to publish Toastmasters. To those who have asked, I understand that you haven’t checked the District PR blog regularly as some of the articles in this Fall edition were posted to the District PR blog in late September.
 
千呼萬喚，終於出刊了！
 
很多會友問我這演講會時報到底還有嗎？問我這句話的人，我知道你沒有定期上部落格，才會沒有意識到，早在九月底演講協會時報秋季號就分階段，悄悄地出刊了！

It is my honor to send you warm greetings from far away Lubbock, Texas. Even though we are separated by vast geography, we are family. Thanks to Toastmasters, we share a desire to better ourselves through the development of our communication and leadership skills. By doing so, we strengthen all our relationships, both personally and professionally, as well as the communities in which we live.
 
I have come to truly love the people of your corner of the world.  Several years ago, Dr. Kenny Wu, a professor at Texas Tech University visited my home club. Dr. Wu is originally from Taiwan. He joined the club and made it his mission to encourage every student he knew from Taiwan to join the club. He understood how they would benefit from Toastmasters as they prepared for delivering presentations, teaching classes and defending their dissertations. He understood that Toastmasters would help them develop The Courage to Conquer!
 
It has been a treat for me to get to know these students. They have taught me a great deal about your country. They are all incredibly smart and hard workers, eager to excel in all they do.
 
I encourage you all to think of how Toastmasters can give benefit you. Strive hard to have quality, distinguished clubs, so that all your members can find The Courage to Conquer whatever challenges they may face.
 
One day I would love to visit your country. Until then, I think of you fondly and consider you “distant relatives.” I wish you all well.

67區演講協會會友，你好！
 
這是我的榮幸，送上來自德州拉博克市溫暖的問候。雖然我們身處不同的地方，我們卻如同一家人。拜演講會之賜，我們有者同樣的渴望，就是精進溝通與領導技巧。因而加強我們在私人與專業方面的的關係，進而我們所處的社會。
 
我曾遇到來自世界各個角落同樣來自你們國家的人。幾年以前，在德州理工大學任教的吳博士拜訪我的母會，他就是來自台灣。他不但加入成為會員，還以鼓勵其他來自台灣的每一位學生加入演講會為己任。他清楚明白演講會的訓練可以幫助學生在準備報告、教書還有準備論文等的助益為何。他更清楚明白演講會可以幫助他們培養"征服的勇氣"！
 
對我而言，能夠認識這些來自台灣的學生獲益良多。他們教導我很多關於你們國家的事情。他們個個聰穎過人但卻努力奮鬥，他們渴望竭盡所能，修練自己。
 
我鼓勵各位想想演講會所提供的好處，認真經營有品質的傑出分會，所以你的會友們無論遇到什麼挑戰，總是會發現"征服的勇氣"。
 
我希望有一天能親自拜訪你們。當那一天來臨前，你們是我在遠方的親人。祝福各位。

My first International Convention was both exciting and disappointing at the same time. My reason for going was simply to support Sammy Su, our district contestant.

我的第一次國際年會之旅是既令人興奮但卻又令人失望的。我會去的理由其實很簡單，就是為了幫代表D67區的冠軍蘇冬蘭加油。

Unbelievable: Helen meets Helen

When I was the toastmasters of the Evening at one of our club meetings a few years ago, I talked about the first female International president of Toastmasters International. Her name was also Helen. Helen Blanchard, DTM. She joined Toastmasters in 1970, but women were not allowed as members, therefore, her club members renamed her “Homer”. Women were officially admitted to Toastmasters in August 1973. She later went on to serve as the first female International President 1985-86. This spring, she released her first novel titled “Breaking the Ice” and attended the Calgary convention to sign her books. It was really an honor for me to meet such a famous Helen.
