早期的彼得、保羅與瑪莉作品，都是非常「標準」的民歌，所有的歌曲裡面，都只有他們三個人以吉他自彈自唱。1966年八月，他們所推出的「彼得、保羅與瑪莉專輯」裡面，他們作出了相當大膽的嘗試，不但部分歌曲採用了鼓，還外聘某些樂手為他們助陣伴奏，「實驗」的意味相當濃厚，讓歌迷們大為驚訝。這張呈現出搖滾民謠風味的專輯，獲得了相當不錯的反應，不過其中最受歡迎的，還是保羅自己譜寫、用老風格演唱的「Kisses Sweeter Than Wine」。

1967年八月，彼得、保羅與瑪莉推出了標題叫做「Album 1700」的專輯，展現出他們在音樂上更大的野心。 這張專輯讓他們再度拿到金唱片，其中保羅跟友人所共同譜寫的「 I Dig Rock and Roll Music 」更成為他們四年以來第一次重新進入排行前十名的單曲，獲得了第九名。接著，他們又以翻唱的鮑布狄倫作品「 Too Much of Nothing 」得到第三十五名，並且收錄在他們1968年的專輯「Late Again」裡面。



所謂「天下事合久必分」，在連續多年的合作之後，儘管已經受到了相當大的肯定，彼得、保羅與瑪莉三個人對於搭檔的事業卻開始有點意興闌珊，暗自思考著何去何從。細心的歌迷甚至還發現，在某些歌曲裡面，瑪莉的聲音竟然消失了，因為她根本沒有進入錄音室。除了舉棋不定之外，另外一個原因是她在這個期間懷孕生子，讓她無法全心投入演唱事業。沒有了瑪莉的參與，他們也無法繼續推出新的專輯，因此只能偶而推出只作單曲發行的歌曲。1969年三月，他們的「Day Is Done」得到了排行的第二十一名。



1969年五月，瑪莉產後復出。由於已經是兩個孩子的母親，有了許多的體認，加上他們三人都喜愛兒童，因此他們推出了一張「彼得、保羅與媽咪」 （ Peter, Paul and Mommy ），收錄了許多首可愛的兒童歌曲，有些是他們自己譜寫的，有些是傳統的兒歌，有些是其他民歌手的作品，甚至更有選自輕歌劇的作品。為了給孩子們帶來歡樂，他們還特別舉辦了一次非正式的演唱會，跟孩子們與其父母一起同樂，其中他們重新演唱了自己當年的「 Puff, The Magic Dragon 」，實況也收錄在這張專輯裡面。這張專輯獲得了極為熱烈的迴響，也讓他們再度奪得了葛萊美獎。
