一九七五年，皇后出版的第四張專輯《A Night at the Opera》（歌劇院之夜）是QUEEN樂隊最為經典的專輯，也正式開啟四人組輝煌生涯，樂隊為這張專輯的製作耗費了巨大的精力，有報導稱這是搖滾樂史上製作費用最高的一張專輯。專輯中由默裘瑞擔綱詞曲的〈波希米亞狂想曲〉（Bohemian Rhapsody）首創將歌劇混聲融入重搖滾，但最特殊的，還是小默彈奏的莫劄特式鋼琴前奏，以及他直上三個半八度、奔騰旋轉的特殊嗓音，這套由Freddie一手打造的華麗搖滾曲風不僅一改由披頭與滾石所豎立的英式搖滾正典，並且首開樂團拍攝音樂MTV和超大型巡迴演唱會先聲。成了QUEEN的招牌曲目，在酷似歌劇唱詩般的華麗配樂中不斷加入大段的重金屬吉他Riff和Solo，這正是QUEEN的典型風格。



歌曲的製作過程也體現了QUEEN那種典型的精益求精的態度，他們用了3個星期的時間來進行錄製工作，而且在歌曲的音軌上加入了大量的背景配音，以至於在錄製完成後，母帶的有些地方磁粉已經薄到可以看穿的地步。Bohemian Rhapsody這首單曲在英國排行榜上迅速升到冠軍的位置，並且在這個位置上停留了足有9個星期，並最終打破了英國單曲排行榜上冠軍停留時間最長的記錄。在美國，這首歌和整張專輯也獲得了巨大的成功，進入了排行榜前10位並同時成為白金單曲和白金專輯。甚至在十多年後的1992年，這首Bohemian Rhapsody還在美國單曲排行榜上獲得過數周的亞軍成績。
