不過，達絲蒂司普林菲德並不是只唱靈魂歌曲的，事實上，她的歌路十分寬廣，從百老匯、藍調、鄉村、甚至舞曲，她都一樣在行。另外，她還以開路先鋒的姿態，大量採用柏特拜克拉（Burt Bacharach）、卡洛金（Carole King）和阮迪紐曼（Randy Newman）等優秀美國作家的作品。

1968年，她嘗試把生涯重心移往美國，在曼斐斯製作的“Son of a Preacher Man”再度獲得成功，可惜她的歌唱事業不久就走了下坡，儘管陸續唱紅了“皇家夜總會”和“柏林諜報戰”等兩部電影的主題曲“The Look of Love”和“The Windmills of Your Mind”， 並獲得1967年奧斯卡最佳電影歌曲提名, 仍然無法挽回頹勢。



70年代中期以後的Dusty並無許多傑出的作品而沉寂近15年,1970年，Dusty Springfield移居美國西海岸，更因為染上了酒精和藥物的癮而使得情況有如雪上加霜。前後十五年，雖然她一再努力嘗試東山再起，也多次應邀跟別的藝人合唱，依然沒有起色，直到返回英國後，才算是有了改變。直到1987年, 她又在排行榜中大顯身手1987年與Petshop Boy合作了一首”What Have I Done To Deserve This?”輕快的舞曲風格又讓她得到全美排行亞軍的佳績，再度蠃得了舉世的矚目, 同年The Carpenters的哥哥Richard邀請她演唱這首思念已病逝的妹妹的情歌”Something In Your Eyes”也在當時的亞洲引起一陣轟動, 之所以會找上Dusty的原因, 除了跟當年Karen有著溫暖的音色之外, 其實當年The Carpenters最欣賞的歌聲就是Dusty。
