What a depressing, depressing movie.
From the look of the trailer, I thought this was gonna be like a comedy with life lesson in it. Who knows it'd turn out to be a drama with very little comedy and very little life lesson. It started alright, but after the first act everything just went nowhere, and stayed nowhere.
Basically we are watching people arguing and fighting for pretty much two-third of the movie. They are not even interesting or dramatic fights, they are just depressing, annoying and boring fights. The characters are a bunch of idiots who don't know how to communicate with each other. The way they try to solve their problems is through shouting, not listening. It's just so dreadful to see their faults so obviously, and no one in the film knows how to handle things right.
At the end of the film, nothing really gets resolved. Although you can argue that's the way of life, but I feel the movie is all talking and no doing. The characters obviously have trouble communicating with each other. Everyone only thinks for themselves, and never try to sympathise with their loved ones. Even though they say they gonna try at the end, but thorughout the movie it is so evident that they don't know how to do that.
What's sad about this movie is that it might be reflecting the real societies. Many people ARE stupid, selfish beings who don't know how to put theirselves in other people's shoes. But what's the point of trying to capture reality on film, if there aren't enough truth to accomapny it? The climax of the film is suppose to be the main character sitting on the deck for days and nights, and by doing that act he can get things sorted out?
I think the story is just as much confused and unsure about life like the characters are, and it's got no answer to anything. "Just keep at it!" That's all it really says. It doesn't know how to change things or turn things around, but it will just keep at it. I don't know what to say, because that really doesn't say anything at the end of the day.
Another thing I hate about the film is that different characters all fight in the same way. There should be difference in the way they speak and react to thier emotions, and when the same person fight with different people he or she should react differently. But in this movie it's all the same. It's like seeing the same fight over and over again. Just lots of repeatition of the same fight, dreadful.
So yeah, avoid this movie and save youself the pain of getting through this unpleasant and purposeless journey. Go look for the meaning of your life else where.
