Betty: Here's your tea and please help yourself to cookies from that jar there.
Horace: Thanks a lot. You've really got a very nice place here. Wait a minute - what's that noise behind the kitchen door?
Betty: That's Bessie the dog scratching to be let in. I'll open the door and let her in…… In you come girl.
Horace: What a lovely dog! But why is she sitting up and begging, and whining too?
Betty: Ah, she's spotted your cookie. She wants one. You'd better give her one otherwise she'll never keep quiet.
Horace: There you are……Did you teach her to sit up and beg for cookies?
Betty: No, my brother did but I wish he hadn't because she sits up and begs every time she sees someone with their hand in the cookie jar.
You've really got a very nice place here。 I really like / love your house / apartment(我真喜歡你的房子╱ 套房)、You have a beautiful / wonderful place here(你住的地方真美╱真好)、You have a lovely home(你的家真可愛)等,然後還可以加一句: You have great taste (你真有品味)。
Wait a minute──what's that noise? 這 Wait / Just a minute / moment / second (1) Wait a minute ──I've to answer the phone(慢著,我去接電話)。(2) Just a second──there must be some mistake here(嗯,一定有些錯誤)。
蓓蒂開門放狗進來: In you come girl。 (1) In came the dog / In it came(那隻狗走了進來)。(2) On one side of the river stood a house / On one side of the river it stood(房子立在河邊)。這類倒裝句子的動詞,一般表示所在或方向,例如 come、go(去)、stand(站立)、sit(坐下)、lie(躺)、hang(懸掛)、be(在,包括 is、was 等 be 的變體)等。
