“Seven” is a detective novel which was written by Anthony Bruno. Are you are a person who can’t stop eating or a person with $10 million who wants $20 million? Then, you may become the goal of the murderer, John Doe. The Seven Deadly Sins, Pride, Wrath, Envy, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth are something bad that only God himself can forgive. Having seven more days, homicide detective Somerset will retire and could leave the city to live in the country peacefully. After twenty-three years, he had seen enough of the violence and crime of the city. But when the police find the victim of the one of Seven Deadly Sins, he knows that he cannot leave. In this time, he has a new partner, David Mills, to help him investigating the case. They follow the clues to find John Doe‘s apartment. Finally, Mills becomes wrath to shoot at Doe because Doe kills his wife and baby. So Doe wins the competition in this case. Then, Mills is sent to prison and Somerset will continue to be a detective to fight the fight.
If I were David Mills, I do not have regret to leave Springfield and work in a big city. Although his wife, Tracy wants to stay in Springfield, there are lots of noise, dirt and crime in the city. Even in her sleep she worries because she feel there is not safe in the city. However, I think Mills is very happy to work with Somerset since Somerset has become a homicide detective for twenty-three years and he has enriched experience with investigating different types of cases. Therefore, he can learn and understand how to be a perfect homicide detective on him. Besides, if I were the judge, I would still send Mills to prison. Since he had killed one man, even the man who is a serious killer and kill lots of people. He should send the killer, John Doe to prison to accept sanctions and not to shoot him. If you shoot him, I think your method do not have too difference with the killer, John Doe in the novel, don’t it? You should give him a chance to think about and correct the mistakes. And I think Somerset tell Mills to throw down his gun because he wants that Mills inherits his job to take a responsibility to fight the fight in the city. Then, he can retire and leave the city to have a child with somebody in the country. When Mills leaves prison, I think he will go to visit his wife and baby's grave and talk about his life in prison with them. Also, he prefers to be a detective rather than a policeman because he feels guilty about the past when he was a policeman. And he can have unrestricted investigation when he becomes a detective.
