Song of Cicadas
Every morning, I hear the Cicadas singing.
Raising my head, look up towards the top of trees, I can see their leaves waving.
Birds are whistling in the trees.
Their whispers are singing a lovely song, so melodious.
We can sit beneath the trees’ shadows.
We can stroll around this wide place, fresh air breezing.
Those are all beneficial to our health.
Besides this, besides staying here, nothing else we are asking.

Chasing after a rabbit in that mountain
Go fishing at the pond side
Repeatedly dreaming of my,
How are you, dear father and mother?
My old friends, are you remain like the old days?
How is your life lately?
Violent wind and driving rain
They always remind me the memories of hometown
I wish I can return to the home with proud
To the home with green hill and crystal clear pond

Uncle Tom’s tears
Uncle Tom is staying in the Lo-sheng sanatorium.
I’m going to see him.
He told me that
“I have no choice but to accept many unfair things in this world.
Who persecutes me? Who knows my sufferings?
I don’t dare to expect her love.
I just have to bear sadness.
I shed tears when the thoughts of the coldhearted world and discrimination.”
Uncle Tom is very honest, knowledgeable and able to write poems.
He spends around fifty years in this sanatorium.
“I bear my grandmother’s love and my mom’s expectation in my mind.
We patients support each other.
The friendship carries us through this difficult time.
I cry because officers and businessmen are destroying our place.”
Don’t worry, Uncle Tom. I would stand by your side.
We carry on preserving the Lo-sheng sanatorium.
I wanna make you shed tears of laughter and happy forever.
Uncle Tom is our treasure. I am going to see him.

Residents’ voice
It is freezing when get up early in the morning.
I am frozen to the bone washing face with cold water.
The loathsome police captured me.
They escorted me to Lo-sheng and violated my human rights.
Our house stands near the Hualien Harbour.
The duration of my studying in the Hualien high school only lasted for half a year.
I have been captive for the rest of my life as a leper.
At that time, leprosy was not a curable disease.
No one would answer when we suffer and cry out in pain.
This disease is an unbearable pain and causes my mother and children to commit suicide.
It is torture to live in the Lo-sheng hospital for sixty years.
The heartless government is greedy for making easy money from the sale of the Lo-sheng sanatorium.
There is another leper sanatorium in France.
Ours is not worse than it.
The Lo-sheng sanatorium is a national treasure of Taiwan.
How can our government sell it out?
Many people stand by us.
Lo-sheng Youth Alliance supports us.
Taiwan Association for Human Rights raises money for us.
We all devote ourselves to save the Lo-sheng sanatorium.

Earth-moving machines keep digging all day.
Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation forces us to remove out our houses.
I am very anxious.
