Yeh Mei Yen will design and write the announcement of recitation contest and participation form before 2/28. School will buy some for-keeps prizes and asked Cynthia Kao to make some bookmarks for all participants.

2008 CLASS Summer Program Institute in Taiwan
June 29 -July 19, 2008
This three-week summer institute is organized by CLASS and supported by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission and National Taiwan University with free tuition and lodging and meals. The funding does not cover airfare, visa application, or other personal expenses for the program. CLASS is now accepting applicants. Please complete the following application form and return it with your letter of statement, a recommendation letter ( or use the recommendation form provided ) and two checks postmarked by March 15, 2008 to:

Discover Chinese
Summer Academic Program
for High School Students
Are you interested in expanding your knowledge about Chinese culture and your ability to communicate in Chinese? Are you available to participate in a special academic program from June 30 – July 25, 2008?
If so, consider applying for a scholarship to attend the Discover Chinese Summer Academic Program!
What: An intensive four-week non-residential program that will allow beginning and intermediate students of Chinese to develop both speaking and writing abilities as well as the understanding of Chinese culture. The program will include classroom instruction as well as cultural field trips. College credits are an option for intermediate students.
Who: Rising 7th – 12th grade students who are highly motivated and enthusiastic about learning Mandarin Chinese in an intensive program.
Where: Students will have the option of applying to participate in the Glastonbury Public Schools program for rising 7th – 12th graders (Glastonbury, CT) or the Choate Rosemary Hall program for rising 9th – 12th graders (Wallingford, CT).
When: June 30 – July 25 from approximately 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Cost: There is no cost to qualified students. However, transportation is the responsibility of the student.
How: Applications are available from the website of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages at www.actfl.org/scholarship.
Application Deadline: March 30, 2008

護照費從97年1月1日要漲價囉~從原來1300元要變成1700元(改為晶片護照)家裏有人還沒辦護照的要在年底之前快送件~外交部預計明年下半年發行內含晶片的新式護照，結合防偽功能與通關便利性，未 來幾年可望為國內外業者帶來10億元以上的商機。立法院外交及僑務委員會22日審查97年度中央政府總預算案，外交部為辦理晶片護 照業務，明年編列32億元預算，獲得委員會通過。外交部領事事務局局長劉融和表示， 明年下半年起民眾申請換發到期的護照，將可拿到裝有新式晶片護照。領事事務局指出，晶片護照外觀與現有護照相同，只是在護照封底內植入晶片。晶片會儲存護照內頁列出的姓名等個人資料及照片。外交部官員表示，護照內晶片有加密 機制，晶片儲存的資料不易變造，可以降低護照冒用或假造。不過，新式護照成本較傳 統護照高出一倍，申換護照的規費也將從每本1,200元調高到1,600元。
