Dear Teachers, Parents, and students,

As the Holiday season approaching, the school has some very exciting events planned for everyone at CLS. Please mark your calendar and RSVP to make sure you will not miss all the fun! In case you have any friends who need the elementary foreign language methods course, I will be teaching it at Southern during the spring semester 2010. It will be on Saturdays from 9:00-11:30 AM and it begins on January 25th. Registration for it is open now. The course number is FLA-404 at Southern Connecticut State University.



By the way, the “wiki” from last summer’s institute is still online. It has lots of great resources.

Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission

Admission Guidelines of the Language Study Program for Expatriate Youth
1. Objective
To provide an educational program for Expatriate youth that improves their competency in spoken and written
Chinese language, enhances their knowledge of Chinese and Taiwanese cultures, and deepens their understanding of
the establishment and development of Taiwan, the Republic of China.
2. Classroom schedules
During the3-week ? 4-week ? 6-week or 7-week study program, Chinese language courses are arranged from Monday
to Friday, as well as Taiwanese language and culture studies. In the evenings, each student may select to spend the
time in leisure activities, internet courses or self-study. Art activities and cultural tours are arranged on Saturdays and
Sundays.
3. Eligibility
Youths ages 14 to 24 (as shown on passport), in good academic standing and health, eager to learn Chinese language,
adaptable to boarding life during the study program, currently residing outside of Taiwan, and of Chinese/Taiwanese
descent are eligible to apply.

Knowledge of Mandarin language will grow in importance

What a pleasant surprise to read the article, “Teacher speaks, students learn,” (AC-T, Oct. 23), describing a high school in Swain County which is presently the only school in the state of North Carolina to have a native teacher of Chinese brought to the school from China under the State Department's Teachers of Critical Languages Programs.

僑務委員會徵求海外儲備文化教師

中華民國僑務委員會為協助海外僑社傳承及推展中華文化,每年均辦理海外文化教學活動,近5年來,業遴派100餘位文化教師前往美、加、歐地區支援近340個華裔青少年夏令營隊;同時配合個別僑社(校)需求,亦已遴派200餘位文化教師前往其他地區教學,參與學員超過5萬2千餘人。

the ACS on Computer training for Teachers

There is one last chance for our teachers to get computer training on 11/7 (Saturday) or 11/8 (Sunday) at the CCC in Flushing, NY.
The original training on 10/24, 10/25 have been rescheduled to 11/7 and 11/8.
