被時間遺忘的網路重現 / The web that time forgot
In 1934, Otlet sketched out plans for a global network of computers
(or "electric telescopes," as he called them) that would allow people to search
and browse through millions of interlinked documents, images, audio and video files
He described how people would use the devices to send messages to one another
share files and even congregate in online social networks
He called the whole thing a "réseau," which might be translated as "network"
— or arguably, "web."

A major UN report out today is set to conclude that
climate change is already having a major impact
on the natureal world
Well,scientists and government delegates want into an overnight work session
in Brussels Thurday to fine-tune the wording of the report
Some participants say it will be a bit
watered down from the original draft
but it's still expected to be the UN's
strongest warning about climate change yet

Chou Chun-hsum is a hard-working go player
He started to play go at the age of eight
H could play for seven to eight hours
in a row without resting or eating
At age 14 Chou broke a record
He became the youngest go player at the time to go professional
There is a large red mark on Chou's face
and people laughed at him at times
He tried to ignore it
and practiced go even harder
This year, Chou won the LG Cup World Baduk Championship
as a Taiwanese go player
Everyone is so proud of him
and people learn not to give up hope by watching him

The number of students studying Mandarin in America
has quickly increased to 60,000 in recent years

More parents in the US are sending their children
to Chinese schools or hiring Mandarin-speaking nannies
to help their children learn Chinese better and earlier
The Chinese language is very hot right now
and kids all over the country
from California to Kentucky
are doing their best to learn it
Many parents believe if their children learn Chinese now
they will have an easier time getting a good job
China's economy and influence grow year after year
Some schools offer half-English
half-Chinese environments for learning
For example, 150 students
at Potomac Elementary School near Washington, DC
spend half their school day learning mathematics and science
in Mandarin and then switch to English for reading
social studies and language arts
The program is popular for different reasons
It's fun because I can speak
it with my brother and we tell secrets in Chinese
that my parents don't understand
