... Ochanomizu area, which is a neighorhood populated by medical universities and musical instrument, ski & snowboard shops.

Taking the Keisei Skyliner, a train ride that lasts about 1 hr. After all, train are more reliable in terms of timing and schedule than buses or cars.

My room for the short stay. I kinda want to stay at those "capsule"-like hotel some time just for fun. xP

A narrow alley near the Ochanomizu Train Station.

Meiji University

The Holy Resurrection Cathedral, also known as St. Nicholai Church is built in the Byzantine style. It was built in 1891 and was heavily damaged during the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. The admission into the church requires 300 yen donation.

The streets now have non-smoking signs. That's excellent because it makes walking outdoor less intimidating.

Medical staff on the streets - you'd see them around this area.

Ochanomizu

There are so many stores packed with very SHINY electric guitars.

People waiting for train.

Rail and canal. Ochanomizu in Japanese literally means "tea water". It was named so because the water from this canal was used to make the shogun's (commander/ruler) tea back in the Edo era.

When I passed by the Hijiri-bashi Bridge, I spotted a rather peaceful and solemn dark temple so I detoured to the quiet grounds. The Yushima Seido is a Confucian Temple built at the end of the 17th century (Edo period). It became a state-run school of neo-Confucianism in Japan.

The Taiseiden (one of the main halls) is a reconstruction as the original building was burnt down in the Great Kanto Earthquake. Apparently inside the temple, there's the world's largest statue of Confucius that was donated by the Lions Club of Taiwan in 1975. But too bad I guess the area is not open now.

History of the Yushima Seido and the area map. The Yushima Seido is also a place where students would come to pray for success in school and examinations. (hence what you see in the first photo).

Although Tokyo is a busy city, there are quiet areas. In some quiet areas, you occassionally hear one of those advertising cars drive by with the speaker saying or singing whatever they're selling. But this one that I saw (there's a burning cauldron thing on the truck...) , I have no idea what it's doing. It just looks rather interesting.

In the Akihabara area (mega-selling zone for electronic things). The streets of Japan at night are illuminated by different lights at various levels of a building. It makes the city look very much alive.

The gate to the Kanda shrine (Kanda Myojin).

Entering the main doors. This shrine dates back about 1,270 years ago but what we see now is the result of mutliple recontructions due to fire and earthquakes.

The Chozuya Pavilion for ceremonial purification prior to praying at the temple.

Details of the rail ornamentation, a statue of symbolisms, view of the Zuishi mon (隨神門).

During important festivals or dates, there will be a lot of people coming over to pray for a prosperous year (especially for business).
