Ruins & Calmness after Jiangmi Typhoon/Hurricane
One of the strongest typhoon to ever hit Taiwan landed on the eastern coastal area of the I-Lan county and swept its way across the island, carrying the meter-breaking wind of super tropical storm that has not been encountered before. Some say it's larger than Hurricane Katrina that hit the US years ago. On the Beaufort scale, the maximum is 17 and what hit I-Lan was the max at 17. At 8, a person will not be able to move or stand against the wind. Imagine: double of that...

Scenes of KaoHsiung Night Life
22:43:29 | Taiwan
I thought this photo was kinda ilke a scene from some gangster movie for some reason. It's a bit surreal and dream-like but also has the weight of something violent underneath. haha. Just kidding. I took this from our tour bus on our way to our hotel near the busy shopping area. They say...

Fishing Island Turned Around

Coastal street on the island of QiJin (Cijin).

This tiny island off the coast of the Kaohsiung harbour (高雄港) was the setting of the film "Blue Cha Cha" (深海; 2005) and an island crowded with tourists nowadays for some strange reasons. To be honest, aside from the old buildings and the smell of dried or BBQ squids or fish or other seafood in markets, I don't see much of a...

Snorkeling in Tropical Schools of Fish & Coral Reef

Parasols of Nan-wan, Kenting.

We were on our way to the 後壁 (Houbi) Harbour when we passed by Nanwan - a place that's usually full of bikini girls. But it was too early when we passed by it on our way to Houbi to do some awesome water activities like snorkeling, banana boat, and etc. in this tropical sea. It was true tropical aquarium in its natual habitat where we snorkeled.  We could swim, touch or feed the tropical fish around us in SWARMS. There was also a lot of corals! NOT bleached ones too!  It was a truely busy underwater world down there; you'd not expect it from looking at the surface! I've...

Purple Sunset Over Cape No. 7
22:32:14 | Taiwan

We went up to the viewing platorm on Guanshan Mountain. There was A LOT of people (old & young). Most people were there to see the panormic view of the ocean and the inland landscape. The sunset from there was beautiful too. On our way to our hotel after dinner and sunset, we passed by the hotel where the movie Cape No. 7 (海角七號) was filmed!! It was actually...

Outdoor scenery from the Waters of The World Hall in the National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium. Doesn't this seem kinda exotic and very unlike the parts of Taiwan you know?

National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium

Scary Jellies!!

Our annual company trip takes us around 2/3 of Taiwan to Kenting (墾丁) - the southern edge of Taiwan. Our "first" real stop was the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium Taiwan is in fact an excellent place to study marine biology due to is geological location. At this musuem, you could also see quite a lot of the marine creatures that you probably won't be able to find in other aquariums (eg. whale shark). The museum also combines the....

The Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village

Last time I visited the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village in Nantou (county in the centre part of Taiwan) was at least 10 years ago I think. Can't really remmeber much except the huge performance stage where tribal people were doing their tribal performances. Aside from the "aboriginal culture" things, there are also a few theme-park rides. We took the gondola (cable car from the entrance to...

It was rather last minute and very far away, but I wanted to tag along.

We were heading toward the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village (九族文化村) in Nantou (南投). It's about 3 hour drive from Taipei - one-way. We started our journey around 7:30am (but 5:50 for me since...

By the harbour of Suao (蘇澳), there's a temple for the godden goddess of the sea Mazu (金媽祖). The statue is made entirely of gold. There was another statue made entirely of jade.

Drift with Sunset to Danshui
17:23:35 | Taiwan

When our family frends came to visit us in Taiwan, we invited them to go to Danshui, one of the port towns in the northern part of Taiwan that has so much colonial history.  When we got there, the sun was almost gone and the tides were out. The place has a rather rustic feel. By the water was the old streets where nightmarket snacks, games, shopping things attract and fill the streets with full of people. Although you would assume most of them are tourists, that is in fact...

Sunrise over Sun and Moon
17:59:25 | Taiwan

日月潭的晨霧 - To see the morning mist over the Sun Moon Lake was one of the items for my to-do list for the year. The lake looked rather mysterious early in the morning ( I somehow woke up at 5:50am without an alarm clock). It feels like Switzerland's Zermatt in the morning. Probably because the Sun Moon Lake is also in the mountains.
