The place nearby had a mine. But it was closed when the mine was constantly collapsing due to too much water/moisture, etc. The mine has been closed for a long time but the living quarter of the miners (in the past) continues to be occupied 'til this day...

Our tour guide for the area telling us about what the old street (老街) used to look like. It looks more modernized now and not unlike an ordinary market place in other parts of Taipei. On March 16, 2008, I took a tour organized by the National Youth Commission to the Bitan Senic Area in the Taipei County. You could get to the place quite easily by MRT and I've always wanted to go... But I wanted to add a special dimension to my travel to the place.
