I think what made this tour different from the previous one was that we had a talk about how historical site and cultural history should be perceived in the rapidly modernizing place where people's personal interests conflicts with the need to preserve things that documents the history of Taiwan. We see changes all over the place, but is it truly better than what was once there before? When we attempt to restore things, are we truly preserving it or are we destroying it? What are people's...

YTT - Mining History & Bamboo Forest - 4/5

The place nearby had a mine. But it was closed when the mine was constantly collapsing due to too much water/moisture, etc. The mine has been closed for a long time but the living quarter of the miners (in the past) continues to be occupied 'til this day...

Our tour guide for the area telling us about what the old street (老街) used to look like. It looks more modernized now and not unlike an ordinary market place in other parts of Taipei. I guess this is what happens when you rapidly modernize; you tend to lose a lot of what used to exist in the past, for better or for worst...

The lake is not named so without a reason. The color of the lake just looks like emerald green...

YTT - Bitan Scenic Area - 1/5

On March 16, 2008, I took a tour organized by the National Youth Commission to the Bitan Senic Area in the Taipei County. You could get to the place quite easily by MRT and I've always wanted to go... But I wanted to add a special dimension to my travel to the place.
