Somehow everyone just knew about this little cafe on Hornby street, and I remained ignorant for the N years that I lived in Vancouver.  This place is largely known for its improv latte art. The place was PACKED with people, especially on a rainy day. & Apparently this place is the “Home to the Canada Barista Champion 2003-2006.

The whole interior was quite like a typical cafe with dark-colored walls and a huge line up. The wall is filled with all the different designs that you can do with cream on latte. It’s pretty fascinating but the coffee there is seriously strong. My latte was so bitter that I had to ask F. to finish it for me. :p

Went to the Yaletownish +stylish restaurant 2 days before I left Vancouver with FM. The restaurant was quite busy on that Saturday night. We went to the Dockside Restaurant in the Granville Island Hotel for a family friend gathering at lunch time. The hotel is all the way on the other end of the less toursty part of the Granville Island. The restaurant is quite big and spacious. The kitchen counter is an aquarium with little tropical fish swimming in it! The restaurant also has a quite superb view of the water. I bet the view at night must be quite romantic!

After reading so many reviews in the Vancouver Magazine and recommendation from friends, I took my family to the Goldfish restaurant. I must say parking was a NIGHTMARE..There was basically nowhere to park and not many paid parkade either. & All the streets have signs that says “With Permit Only”. So I ended up parking at a hotel. My goodness..

I think tapas-style of restaurant is quite popular in Vancouver nowadays. I think one of the most stylish/Bohemian place must be BIN 941. The place was tiny and there weren’t many seats or space to move around. But almost every corner of the place is very chic-ly decorated. The huge mirrors, the cute tables, the Venetian masks on the walls, etc. There was just a lot of bright colors and nicely decorated food. Too bad the place was really noisy. But it was still quite a feast.

Josie, Athena & I finally got our act together to go to the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts near the Granville Island! I’ve always heard of the place because people said the food there is very fine and delicious at a affordable price (because they’re the works of the culinary students there). So we went there for a summer Saturday brunch that included buffet-style appetizers and desert + an ordered entree (of up to 2 choices out of 3 options). It was definitely worth the $26 CAD!

Went to Chambar for my 22nd b-day. I thought the location was rather sketchy but the interior deco was chic (in the Belgian art nouveau & modern industrial sense) and the food was awesome. The place was slightly overcrowded with tables, chairs and people, and it’s quite loud with all the chatters & sounds with all the other tables around you. The belgian cuisine at the restaurant is quite delicious! I’ve heard of this place so many times among my friends that I couldn’t leave Vancouver without trying it out.

I saw the ads for this place at a Japanese Tea festival that was held at UBC. Then I came across it again at the Eat! Vancouver event held in spring. Jenn & I had been talking about going to a tea place for some time. This place was perfect b/c it’s chic and modern. There’s quite a lot of variety in terms of the kinds of tea they sell. Nice packaging but pricey I must say.. We were just there for the matcha smoothie ’cause we just didn’t have enough of it at the Eat!Vancouver event. :p

I’ve always wanted to do some English afternoon tea with my female friends but we could never really get a group together. But I really want to try English afternoon tea in Vancouver and I even got a list of teahouses and cafes that I should try before I leave Vancouver. Secret Garden was one of the items on the list. I’m so glad that Josie could come with me!
