Song of Cicadas 
Every morning, I hear the Cicadas singing.

Raising my head, look up towards the top of trees, I can see their leaves waving.

Birds are whistling in the trees.

Their whispers are singing a lovely song, so melodious.

We can sit beneath the trees’ shadows.

We can stroll around this wide place, fresh air breezing.

Those are all beneficial to our health.

Besides this, besides staying here, nothing else we are asking.

故鄉　

Hometown

Chasing after a rabbit in that mountain
Go fishing at the pond side
Repeatedly dreaming of my,

oh my unforgotten hometown
How are you, dear father and mother?
My old friends, are you remain like the old days?
How is your life lately?
Violent wind and driving rain
They always remind me the memories of hometown
I wish I can return to the home with proud
To the home with green hill and crystal clear pond

阿湯伯的眼淚  

Uncle Tom’s tears

Uncle Tom is staying in the Lo-sheng sanatorium.

I’m going to see him.

He told me that

“I have no choice but to accept many unfair things in this world.

Who persecutes me? Who knows my sufferings?

I don’t dare to expect her love.

I just have to bear sadness.

I shed tears when the thoughts of the coldhearted world and discrimination.”

Uncle Tom is very honest, knowledgeable and able to write poems.

He spends around fifty years in this sanatorium.

“I bear my grandmother’s love and my mom’s expectation in my mind.

We patients support each other.

The friendship carries us through this difficult time.

I cry because officers and businessmen are destroying our place.”

Don’t worry, Uncle Tom. I would stand by your side.

We carry on preserving the Lo-sheng sanatorium.

I wanna make you shed tears of laughter and happy forever.

Uncle Tom is our treasure. I am going to see him.

你的愛

 Your love

Your love, your love, love should be true and faithful.

Don’t hold double standards between us.

We can see the difference between true love and false love.

Don’t love someone in particular.

We want true love and peace.

don’t treat others judging by the way they treat us.

We would live together in perfect harmony,

if  sincerely treating everyone.

Don’t you desire this sort of relationship?

院民之聲

Residents’ voice

It is freezing when get up early in the morning.

I am frozen to the bone washing face with cold water.

The loathsome police captured me.

They escorted me to Lo-sheng and violated my human rights.

Our house stands near the Hualien Harbour.

The duration of my studying in the Hualien high school only lasted for half a year.

I have been captive for the rest of my life as a leper.

At that time, leprosy was not a curable disease.

No one would answer when we suffer and cry out in pain.

This disease is an unbearable pain and causes my mother and children to commit suicide.

It is torture to live in the Lo-sheng hospital for sixty years.

The heartless government is greedy for making easy money from the sale of the Lo-sheng sanatorium.

There is another leper sanatorium in France.

Ours is not worse than it.

The Lo-sheng sanatorium is a national treasure of Taiwan.

How can our government sell it out?

Many people stand by us.

Lo-sheng Youth Alliance supports us.

Taiwan Association for Human Rights raises money for us.

We all devote ourselves to save the Lo-sheng sanatorium.

Earth-moving machines keep digging all day.

Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation forces us to remove out our houses.

I am very anxious.

Our government officers have violated our human rights.

We marched through streets.

We marched on Switzerland

We held a march to the presidential office building.

Even Japan has admitted its mistake.

our officers have still passed the buck.

自從阿公阿嬷們為了樂生院走上街頭後，我就時常為他們的身體，要這樣暴露在公眾面前而感到心疼。但他們說：「沒關係，越是扭曲的身體越該被看到，因為它代表著歷史摧殘的痕跡。」然而，這樣的暴露與歷史的錯誤應該要被正確的理解，因此想透過短片向大眾訴說他們的故事。文 / 馨文

我父親是樂生院的醫生。小時候，父親偶爾會帶我一起值班；木造的日式建築，走在木板上發出的嘎答嘎答聲響，木門滑動的聲音，門庭外恣意奔跑的大草坪，以及稻穗翻飛的羊腸小徑，都令我難以忘懷。但這些景象已不復在，取而代之的卻是捷運工程…我不解，這麼美好的地方，只因交通的便利性，就這麼消逝了…

94年7月7日進駐樂生院時，正值新大樓完工，大家每天的話題離不開院方有違人倫道德的逼迫惡行。我感受到院民承受極大的壓力之際，卻只能眼睜睜看著一個個無奈地任人擺佈的殘弱身軀。然而，有一群院民卻用僅有的生命守護唯一的家園，在怪手強挖下奮身抵擋。那一幕使我確信，我要用影像紀錄這群與國家機器搏鬥的人們，直到公平正義降臨到他們身上為止！

〈樂生保留運動紀錄片〉由一群用心守護樂生之社會人士一同完成，感謝他們不吝貢獻作品。這一群愛好影像的人，只為一個共同的理念聚在一起工作，我稱之為影像文化公共財的具體實踐。文 / 平烈浩
