I got the&nbsp; honor to be the host and guide for Pingyun and his&nbsp;colleagues in 2004 when studying the practice of direct&nbsp;democracy in <place w:st="on"></place> Europe . Pingyun was not only an excellent&nbsp;scientist and creative democrat,&nbsp;but also one of the&nbsp;finest friends on the other side of the globe. I met Ping-yun the first time at the TFD Symposium on Initiatives and Referendums in October 2003 in Taipei . In him, I  did meet a person with an enormous and rich knowledge as well as an uncommon sensibility for the needs of modern democracy. I got the  honor to be the host and guide for Pingyun and his colleagues in 2004 when studying the practice of direct democracy in Europe . Pingyun was not only an excellent scientist and creative democrat, but also one of the finest friends on the other side of the globe. I will miss him and hope that we all will be ready and capable to follow-up his wish to make a truly democratic country and member of the world society.
