take a breath (iii)

Nike Factory Outleton the 2nd day, we went to the nike factory outlet at the niagara falls. the store is HUGE! jojo went there once and bought a pair of advanced b-ball shoes with really really low price. i think whether or not u could pick up a good deal all depends on fortune. go there at the very right time, with the need of the very right size, keep the very right market price in mind, u will find the very right pair.

i was lucky that i discovered this pair of ACG called "air zoom tallac" among thousands of orange boxes. actually saw it once on nike jp before. combining cool looking n' hi-tech, it is an awesome ACG-series weapon. the market price is $209. this factory outlet sold it w/ $134, then down to $114 for this week specially. all the items charged over $100 would be 25% off on that day. finally, i payed $97 something including tax for it. great deal, cheer!!

Wine
haven't been out of waterloo and t.o. for a long while. human have the natural motivation to move around and the inner curiosity toward never-been places; im not an exception, hahahaha. randomly, suddenly, unordinarily, made the decision to skip two days of classes and go for a brief trip w/ barb.

leaving on friday noon, we got hamilton at around 3:30pm. the city is so beautiful; it beats K/W unquestionably. constructions look european, reminding us we are abroad. ppl there are nice, but sorta weird - they stare at every stranger walking by. initially, we felt kinda uncomfortable, and thought ppl looked at us since we are not hamiltoners. we checked whether our dressing was somehow strange, but found no clue. soon, we got used to it and realized that they did it on everybody.... yeah, but anyway, they are so nice when we actually talked to them.

there is a huge mall in downtown. u can find anything for every-day life - asian food marts, food courts, groceries, cinema, hotel, restaurants, city library, u name it. there is no footlocker or champs in it, but a really special shop called 'lacer'. shoes are placed in small woody cells rather than simple shelves. most of the shoes there are limited-edition (they look pretty 'hong kong' style).

yeah, we went to McMaster. honestly speaking, it is the best univ. ive ever seen. their "SLC" is amazing. today, when i went back to ours again, a.ha..... have to say every detail over there drove me excited. took several pix and m gonna upload them in soon.

too late to wrap this up (3:15 am now). hoho, gonna write rest of our trip and upload pix in coming days. pix, ah, i did take my tripod and camera, but the stupid thing is i forgot that the battery in cam was almost out of power.... boooo..... neeway, used barb's cam to shoot around. its resolution is pretty high. however the tradeoff of being extraordinarily small is its unstability.

Skateboard
at left is the new skateboard barb bought. wahaha :) it is not that "easy" to take a bran-new board around in the mall, i mean, mentally.

Chan
can you believe it !? there is only one month left for this term.... gosh, it seems like this term just started. that...is...AWFUL. tho we got no exams in sight (by 'in sight', i mean these coming 2 wks), chan and i started to work harder. left MC at 2:00 am (haha, gud time to stroam along the ring road neeway). yea, full moon today. bright and peace is it. chan told me that today is the longest day of a year. wow, nice :)

it is the game to enjoy

Joy
occasionally, we complain too much - bad weather, crappy courts, or wutever. indeed, it does not matter whether we are wearing answer 8, aj 20, or t-mac iv, the game itself is the point (hoho, however, i am not saying shoe is not important to enhance on-court performance, but emphasizing the importance of the enjoyment). the pic at left was taken by dad at the ceiling of the apartment in which my home locates back there in Beijing. a bunch of constructors were playing b-ball for leisure. cloudy weather, jaggy ground reduced little of their joy. imo, they were enjoying the game no less than Yao did. yeah, Yao, actually he implied that he wanted to take this summer off. however, national team officials said "no." honestly speaking, sometimes, i just cannot stand our so-called nationalism. it kills.

kix

today is good - at least, i got enough time to look around some recent kix.

SOLE COLLECTOR

on the SOLE COLLECTOR, found a bunch of reviews written by prof. k.. o ho, haven't read his words for a long while. he shutted down his site, kicksology, last summer. now, it seems that he came back! yeah, during last 2 or 3 yrs, this industry was really really really disappointing. no shocking tech, no attractive look. so it is obvious why he left. neeway, he is back (personally, i feel so cheerful about this ^^ )! i still remember clearly that he helped me out to get contact with Wilson Smith, the designer of Air Jordan XVI and XVII. sincerely, i feel so thankful to him.

AJ XXthe two reviews availble there now are about Air Jordan XX and Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K5. rest parts are still under construction. hopefully, could be able to read them in sooooon. i can't wait for any longer, haha.

Sneaker Collectionoh! btw, there are several AWESOME pix of adidas 1, the hi-tech shoe i posted weeks ago, on a korean web site named Sneaker Collection. yeah, they r also from a review article, which is written in korean. take a look. they r pretty neat!

done :)

Eventually, eventually, eventually, i have this packed day done... hooo...... definitely lack of sleep now, but neeway, wont sleep to waste such a wonderful day (seems like ive not really developed the major depression disorder yet, wahaha)!

It is time to apply, at least prepare for, the grad school. not sure if i should stay here, in waterloo, or just go down there to somewhere in the states.  i think i will try U of Oregon, U of Massachusetts, and MIT. By chance, found a gud site to get info about univ's in U.S. - univesities.com.

Storm in WaterlooThere was an amazing storm yesterday here in waterloo. so excited! went running in the rain. last time i did so was about 3 yrs ago, i think. honestly speaking, summer rain is truly enjoyable ;)

Overloaded

Subway Study study study.. 2 big huge mid-terms on next Tuesday! antho and psych, both are wut we call purely "arts" courses. still have hundreds of pages left, ah, alright.. wahaha. neeway, just got my 1st calc test mark back, fairly well done ;)

the weather in Waterloo is getting SO HOT. ppl look sorta frustrated, due to high temp. + mt's, i think.

tho there are tons of stuff to read and memorize, psych disorder is such an interesting course! reading cases cited in text makes me feel we all are so lucky to be, in some extent, normal (however, the more i read the more i find i have some symptoms of major depression...sigh.. haha, but anyway most ppl here develop that, m sure).

Summer is right here!

eventually, summer came!

the entire day yesterday was pretty humid. around 11pm, while i opened my window, shower started! tho it did not last too long, the amount fallen was much enough to cool everything, everybody down! right after i setting my tripod up, the shower stopped (c how brief it was! haha). ive been eager to take the pic of fulmination for a long while, but got none result yet. this is a very task demanding perfect preparation.

today was a great day! fresh, cool wind + purely blue sky + bright shine...wut else needed?haha! lying on grass, wearing shorts, skirts, shirts, sandals, people were sooooooo relaxed. tho the social psych exam i wrote today was not well done (not externally attributing the factor of not doing well, honestly speaking, whole class found the exam was kinda hard and sorta long, at least comparing with sample questions), i was not really in blue after it. just, let it go ;)

here is the beer barb and i bought 1 month ago. i did not drink any (and probably not in coming days either). to avoid wasting, i used them as shooting objects. hoho, pretty match the subject today -- summer! ah, beer... alcohol consumption is one of the most popular topics in health behaviour studies. basically, people use alcohol to escape self-awareness to avoid negative thoughts about oneself (at least temporarily). not really a gud way for ending self-scrutiny and self-focus, is it? yeah, yeah, of course wut i m saying is alcohol abuse. moderate drinking actually is beneficial. oh..... ahm, i think i should stop talking about social psychology for a while..........

Self-serving attribution

Victory
The fact that athletic competitions highly emphasize victory makes sports a field at which self-serving attributions are made, by athletes and coaches, frequently. By analyzing quotes of players and coaches in articles reporting recent events across different types and levels of sports, one can easily find that the pattern of most causal attributions shows to be self-serving. After Blue Jays' win over Duke in a NCAA lacrosse game, its coach Pietramala said "I'm not a guy who believes in destiny. I'm a guy that believes in hard work." He attributed their win to hard work and adequate preparation rather than luck. John Godina commented on his win of 10,000 meters at U.S. Open that "My technique is good right now. It's never been better." As a player of solo sports, John spontaneously drew the conclusion that his win was merely due to the internal factor -- his excellence. As one of the most important external factors determining game results, referees are usually becoming the targets on which defeated players and teams blame. "Wasn't a lot of time for us out there on the floor. You know, had to put up with the extra help they had out there,'' said Ben Wallace, a NBA player of Detroit Piston, after their loss of the game 5 in Eastern Conference finals. From pro sports to college leagues, from solo sports to team games, though the patterns vary slightly athletes commonly take losing off their own shoulders and put winning on. It is not simply a selfish behavior, rather an exquisite human function to protect us from threats to self-esteem, to reduce psychosocial pressure, and to enhance self-confidence. Another phenomenon I found interesting is no matter lost or won a game, players tend to praise their opponents. My hypothesis is: by positively evaluating the performance of opponents, athletes try to either confirm their ability to win or lighten the pressure of failure to further enhance self-confidence.
