9t shot

lying on the grass for about 20mins doing nothing but thinking. thinking randomly. actually, pretty much about ego-philosophy (tho sometimes it is seen as self-bullshitting), say, who i am, what i am doing, what i am for, whether or not i am living happily while meaningfully, if i am contributing any thing to the society, and bla bla bla.... yeah, so peaceful.  vipul, u r right - lying on the grass n' simply looking at the sky are so enjoyable! lol

took a pic in front of the st. paul college. it is not PSed. the way i made it is: 1st, set the exposure time to 10s, F value to 2.0; 2nd, stand still for about 5s in front of the camera; lastly, run out of the pic. next time, maybe i should try to hold a flashlight waving around ;)

BMH day

NSERC

stayed at BHM for the entire day working on the NSERC application. for buddies who are seriously considering taking grad school in science and engineering fields, my suggestions are: 1. get familiar w/ at least 2 PhD profs asap; 2. start to look at the NSERC n' OGS application processes when u have time to do so. deadlines set by UW are usually at the late Sept. most of grad schools wont take unfunded students, however, i was told that waterloo, or say the prof u r goin to work w/, would try to give u a TA job if u really wanna stay (about which i doubt). each year, NSERC will fund around 16,000 students across Canada. this # includes all the master n' PhD applicants, so i would say the competition is pretty intense. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US!!!

school days

on Tuesday, first time, i listened to Dr. Jennifer Durkin's KIN425 lecture; she is totally different from the "KIN391 Jen" in summer. from her prepared lecture n' imperturbed speech, u can confidently tell this lady is somebody big. met Chad, my summer co-worker, after lec in the hall. haha, i like this kinda feeling - familiar while fresh. u know wut i found? all these 4's level profs are awesome! seriously!

graduation is not far anymore. went to the scholarship info session this afternoon. it seems like my marks are ok, however to know more profs deeply is wut i gotta start now. reference letter, reference letter, reference letter.... yeah, Mardy in the meeting yesterday even talked about the procedure of the convocation. huh, that's awful.

ming got the citizenship of Canada, althou he kept saying "i'm a korean!" haha, congrats dude!! After working at Subway during the entire August, Alex eventually got a job at the CKMS radio station. he will be the DJ in the show starting at 2:00am every night, till 4 if im not wrong. wish him a good sleep! Curtis met a number of nice ppl at his new home.  yeah, same here. my roommate flied back from shanghai yesterday. he is nice, quiet and approachable. great :)

had dinner at Wayne's new place. he is living w/ James, Kevin and Daniel at WCRI now. the house itself is cool, while their life is pretty free and alive. James showed me his boxes of CDs on which a number of games, movies and shows were burnt. haha, man, i have never seen this many before. he is collecting motorbicycle models and some other toys. seeing those made me seriously want some!

12 already, so now is thursday already, and so tmr is Chan's birthday! most ppl are at bomber tonite, i am sure. hope Chan is there having fun too! :)

new term starts

new term, fall 2005, starts. for me, this will be the 2nd last term here in Waterloo. it is also gonna be the busiest term i would ever get. GRE, grad school and scholarship application, and my own research project, all are packed into this 4-month duration. whatever,  i think i'm pumped up, again ;)

new faces are everywhere. honestly speaking, i love frosh students - they bring bezazz into this deadly campus. yeah, however, it wont take too long to switch them into the so-called "waterloo style", trust me. not complaining, i totally understand this is the trade-off of being the best across country.

the place im living now is awesome - kind landlord, quiet surrounding, safe neighborhood, clean environment, low rental and free laundry and internet, u name it. i mean, wut could i ask for more?

ppl are shiny today, as the weather, so am i. why not? life is nothing more than an 80-year procedure of experiencing. at this very sec, we r making history. no matter wut we are personally feeling, time is being gone, we are being gone. value. i think it is about the value, the angle at which we interpret the world. yeah, just be happy.

our kin-biochem prof Ken is a young dr. from the Stanford U.. his speech this morning inspired me a lot. he said, i hope u guys seriously think about wut u can gain from a course rather than how to complete the requirement for ur degree. i think i was more like trying to complete the bachelor degree than to smoothly enjoy the process of learning. i know this sounds kinda doctrinal - few ppl are really having fun with reading tons of texts. right, but think about it, thounds of thounds dollars should not be paid back merely with pain and excessive tiredness, should it? i think the feeling of gaining knowledge must be joyful, as long as this process is not unacceptablely intensive. this enjoyment seems sorta hard to be achieved in Waterloo, imo, due to the "5-course-per-term" schedule. anyway, no matter how much we got, be joyful.
