Indigo Dyeing Society

 ~Origin and prospect of the society  ~

 　  At the early stage of 2000, marching in the new century, environmental awareness and community industry start to root and grow. At this time, a group of nature fancier started to step into the community and village in the mountain, investigated and recorded the ancient industry on this land. It was discovered that indigo dyeing was once the essential resource and skill that ancestors relied for living. Some people of the group are professor or teacher in the school, and some are housewife or retired volunteer, due to the movement from indigo dyeing, they grow and collect blue grass, produce blue mud, build blue vat and manufacture their own blue cloth; some of them are hand print clothes workers and devote themselves in the field of indigo dyeing in order to broaden the variety and abundance. However, most of them are from all fields of the society, some of them enjoy local literature and history, some have special interests upon agriculture and plant; some are passionate upon painting, music and mountain climbing. Even from different fields, they are gathered around the blue vat by the same interests and ideals to explore, share and be in the calm and beautiful indigo dyeing world.  

In modern society, indigo dyeing is not only the print & weaving skill with the combination of sense and sensibility; it is also the revival of ancient traditional industry. We also hope to advance the concept of environmental harmonized co-surviving from here. With the gathered power from members with same interests and the necessity for ideal carrying out, hereby, we invite you who enjoy and support indigo dyeing to join us.
