Wallace Huo had developed his career in China in the recent two years, but rumors are always around about his love affairs and arrogant attitude. We had a chance to interview him when he took a brief break back to Taiwan during his busy filming schedule. Wallace talked about what he learned and how he grew by working in China. He answered every question with a sincere heart, which shattered all the negative impressions on him due to the rumors.
Grown Up in China
With his handsome outlook, Wallace had always been the topnotch for a major lead in Taiwanese idol dramas. However, after 100% Senorita, he moved his career to China by filming TV series Emerald on the Roof, Tian Xia Di Yi, Wu Shi Lang, Romance of Red Dust, and the movie Hands in the Hair, drifting away from the Taiwanese idol class. On being asked whether he had ever regretted leaving behind the idol audience in Taiwan, he replied slowly after thinking for a while. “Many idol dramas picked me as their choice of major lead, but I can do nothing except for making idol dramas, if I stayed in Taiwan. When I started working in China and even other overseas countries, I had a chance to work with a lot of great actors/actresses whom I never dreamed to work with. They taught me a lot and enlightened me on acting. I think it is worthwhile investing these years to work overseas.”
Afraid of being mistaken as despising new generation idol stars, Wallace emphasized, “I am not saying that idol dramas are bad. But we may not learn so much if we just keep doing it, because we are all beginners.”
Remarkably, by collaborating with superstars Shu Qi and Miriam Yeung, and also making a movie with Rosamund Kwan, Wallace grew substantially in his perspectives as a professional actor. “The acting of Shu Qi is very introspective. She will throw out some hints for me to follow. Miriam is completely different; she never acts in the same way and it is quite a challenge for her partners to catch her tone. Fortunately I am quick in response and can also surprise her by my ad lib inspirations.” Wallace said.
Surrounded by Fair Ladies
Among these three beauties, who attracted him most? Wallace said, “Rosamund is very unique. We are good friends and she is like my elder sister. Shu Qi is charming. Her eyes are alluring and I can’t help being attracted by her. As her nickname ‘laughing auntie’ says, Miriam likes to laugh and she is very bright.”
Staying abroad for work for such a long time, Wallace does not have any time for a relationship. He spent all his time working with those famous actresses, no wonder love rumors were everywhere. He explained, “We became friends by working together, but after the filming was over, we did not keep in touch very often, because everybody was so busy. For example, I haven’t heard from Shu Qi for a long time.”
No Kids before Marriage
Wallace said that he also looked forward to a significant relationship, but there is no time for romance during his packed working schedule. Although not too worried about his marriage, his Dad would save for him the love affair reports on the newspaper. Wallace chuckled, “I plan to get married and have kids before 35, so from now on I have to be serious about it.”
But will it be too old to get married and have kids after 35? Would it be better to catch the trend of having kids before the marriage? Our cute Wallace was embarrassed. “There is no way I am going to do that. Kids come after the marriage, that is my rule!”
