The Man Who Steals the Show
Meg and orion

Sitting quietly at the corner, the pensive-looking young man seemed to distance himself from the buzz in a filming studio. Disguised in a T-shift and jeans, the plainly dressed Wallace Huo could be mistaken as a contract worker or staff member, but the thick stack of scripts at his hands hinted to us that he is our leading character in this drama.
“Camera!”

The magic word instantly turned Wallace into a different person. Raising his head, what came into sight was his sad face with soulful dark eyes wet with tears. It was a solo that he stood far in the foggy rain seeing his lover off. Crystal-clear tears trickling down his cheeks, the heart throbbing sorrow was overwhelming that the studio was in complete silence as if he just cast a spell with his glamorous charisma.

He is the note that strikes the chord, and the man who steals the show.

SENSITIVITY AND VERSATILITY

It is hard to talk about Wallace Huo without mentioning his phenomenal gorgeous face first, and yet it would be unfair to attribute all his show-sealing reputation to this exquisite look. More than just another pretty boy on TV, Wallace is blessed with an unusually affectionate voice and sensitive acting skills. He brought out the essence of the characters and added a unique personal touch; a charm blended with wildness, melancholy, tenderness, and vulnerability. These characteristics were best showcased in his widely acclaimed trendy romantic series such as At the Dolphin Bay and Sound of Colors, a melodrama based on a bestseller comic book in which he and Ruby Lin developed a beautifully tragic romance. When he shed a tear, the world was flooded in pain; when he smiled, the earth suddenly became heaven.

Like peer Taiwanese idol stars of his generation, Wallace made his name in those popular youth dramas. What made him outstood among peers, however, was that he boldly developed a career far beyond the realm of trendy drama. As one of the most versatile young stars in Taiwan, his portrait of the swordsman deeply tortured by hatred and love in the martial art series Tian Xia Di Yi/Hero brought him rave reviews. The more recent appearance in the pseudo-historical drama, Romance of Red Dust, where Wallace partnered with award-winning actress Shu Qui, also won him critical acclaims.

Just as audience was busy to respond to his remarkable progress in acting, Wallace threw a bigger surprise to us. In Hands in the Hair, a movie exploring the desire and despair of a woman who tries to retrieve her long lost passion from a young hairdresser, a shy and innocent-looking Wallace and his breathtakingly erotic scenes with Rosamund Kwan stunned the audience. When most of his idol peers spare no efforts to keep their postures as urbane and sentimental, Wallace has already made a giant leap to present the real emotions and struggles in his works.

A ROAD OF TWIST AND TURNS

With 12 TV series and one movie made in less than four years, Wallace is firmly justified as one of the most sought-after young stars in the mandarin circle. However, looking back his career, it was hard to imagine that a man with such a mesmerizing charm could start low and under. Working first as a backstage assistant for nearly two years, Wallace went through an unexpected digression from his initial dream as a singer. Being summoned to serve the army—a mandatory requirement in Taiwan-almost blew his feeble wish for the show business, were it not for his perseverance and opportune trend of Taiwanese idol dramas. Debut in the 2002 TV series Star as an actor-singer, however, Wallace did not embrace the new comer’s luck which made F4 overnight stars with their first show, Meteor Garden. In early 2003, after appearing in another three TV dramas, two of which were merely quest appearance, the very first glance of a bright future finally dawned on him. With the impressive performance as a music producer in his fifth drama, the widely acclaimed At the Dolphin Bay, Wallace enjoyed a skyrocketing popularity that brought him another two major hits of the year, Westside Story and 100% Senorita. Together with earlier series, in the year of 2003, Wallace was literally on the screen all the time, and without slightest doubt, the most popular TV star of the year.
