The romance Emerald on the Roof will premiere in GTV, Taiwan, 10 PM on September 30. Opened with romantic scenes in England and Hainan Island, the story was unfolded as Wallace and George grew up as best friends with their childhood chasing the train and fantasizing about the paradise. Their friendship, however, experienced changes and challenges after the anecdotal appearance of SunLi in their lives.
On talking about Emerald, Wallace said with a smile that this is his first time in drama that he had to play a high school kid. He was embarrassed when he first read the script, but under the encouragement of Mr.Teng-Kuey Yang, president of GTV, he started to work on this role of a sentimental and premature high school student. "However, this is my first, and also probably the last time of me being a high school student in formal TV dramas. I have grown up and it would be pretentious to be high school kid. Not only the audience, me myself won't be convinced, unless it is some sort of hideous comedy!" He said.
In order to make a difference to his well-known melancholy which will appear as he left the homeland in the drama, Wallace made a lot of changes on his dresses, and also put on glasses. With white shirt and khaki trousers, he is a perfect nerd in strong contrast to the sunny boy George Hu. This is exactly what this drama is asking for, but some fans complained about the glasses being shielding Wallace's beautifully electrifying eyes! They even wanted to post their complaints to the stylists, for which Wallace felt confusingly funny.
In Emerald, Wallace, George, and SunLi were three active high school kids with a colorful youth. Wallace and George liked to chase the train and raced on the beach. George even jumped into the sea when he got excited. SunLi put on an ugly make-up to learn martial arts and climbed on the coconut trees. All three were so excited about the high school story, especially for George, who was educated entirely in the United States and was never in student uniform. Wallace was very satisfied with this role. "In this character I rekindled my passion and fantasy as a student and adventured through a lot of things which I didn't have the guts to do when I was in school, like writing love letters, cleaning lady's restroom, and fighting with a girl. Ha!! I was so impressed with cleaning the lady's restroom!"
Wallace and SunLi are a couple of lovers in Emerald, but they started off fighting each other out of a chain of misunderstandings. They broke the school principal's vase and SunLi forced Wallace to take the punishment for her: cleaning up the lady's restroom. Wallace was gradually attracted to this spoiled girl whom he hated so much in the beginning. Wallace said with a grin, "I never fought with any girl when I was in high school. It is amazing how many different ways we fight in the first two episodes of this drama. It is also my first time in lady's restroom. I believe the audience will find their good old days in Emerald, because it is something we cherish in the depth of our hearts."
