Modern Beauty has two essential features: modernism and beauty. This is a fashion show, and that tenders down the macho and chauvinistic filming studio a little bit. In addition to the anxiety on the faces of the staff members, who need to speed up the filming, there is this little enjoyment. But having seen a lot of beauties can crank up your desire to see some handsome guys too, especially hunkies surrounded by beautiful girls. Therefore, Wallace Huo and Yu Xiaowei have every reason to be proud of being the two key male roles in this series. Wallace Huo: This series meets all my fantasy about a marriage People say Wallace is “difficult”. He is Capricorn, and Capricorn is difficult on things you hardly imagine to be any problems. But his considerateness is also beyond your imagination. We interviewed him several months ago. When I gave him the magazine this time, he responded immediately, “We have met before, in SungChiang, right?” He pondered for a few seconds, and mumbled again. “Yes, SungChiang, thank you.” Grabbing the magazine in hand, he took me, the photographer and other staff members to a bright roomy place for this interview. M: Let's talk about your role in this drama.
W: I am the chief editor of a fashion magazine in this TV. I played this kind of artistic director in the past, but this is my first time being a married man (laughs). Kristy and I get married when we are really young (in the show), and this drama is about the life and the problems we face after getting married. We are colleagues, and how a couple should deal with each other when they are also working in the same office? I think this is particularly interesting. W: (laughs proudly) With my fantasy and imagination! I never get married before, and I try to act in a more casual way. A married couple should be unassuming; they must put things straight, and confront each other on trivia in daily life. Forget about the sweet love letters. Marriage is all about life, what to but, which is more important, this and that. I had been fantasizing about my own life after marriage, and my conclusion is, it is going to be as ordinary as anyone else. Shopping for dinner together, watching TV, or straddling on the street, thing like that. I experience that kind of dream in this show, and I also instill my fantasy into it. Being natural and unassuming is what I ask of myself in Modern Beauty, except for my job. Since I am a chief editor, I should have some authority in office, but it is another story at home. I match perfectly with Kristy, which really surprises me, because neither of us is married, but we did a pretty good job in the show.
M: You are both Capricorn.
W: Yes, and also the director Jeffrey Chiang. So we share a lot of concepts and understanding in common. My next drama is likely to be with Jeff again. We have a nice collaboration and there is no need to switch partners, as long as there is a good role for me to do some breakthrough. It is absolutely great to work with a director with whom you have trust and appreciation.
How difficult it is to be an actor? To catch up with the filming schedule, the whole team is racing with the limited time. This morning it was chilly and rainy. But the crew arrived on time at 7:30 AM, dressed up, tuned in, all the way till midnight.
This is a scene in Modern Beauty about semi-final in some beauty competition show. Wallace Huo, suited in white, is sitting in the middle of the judges. Well, being an actor is not always as sound and flashy as it seems. For example, in this scene the focus is on girls who stand on the stage for a live-or-death competition. Most actors in the audience seats are nothing more than a background setting, boringly necessary for the show: you have to be there, but not much about the camera. Wallace sits right next to Kristy Yeung; he seems to be perfectly equipped with a respectable, serious look. However, from our several encounters with him, Wallace is absolutely a man with many adorable features and a mind of enrichment. If he is ready to tell you a lie, there must be millions of people falling in front of his sincere face.
Let's first listen to what other people said about Wallace. All the comments had been extremely positive: He is very dedicated to work, never late for filming even when he got a flu. This is not an easy thing for such a famous star. Wallace is also very considerate of his colleagues. He doesn't flatter people, but he will quietly attend to your most trivial needs. From his last show Wu Shi Lan to the current Modern Beauty, the female staff like to call him Brother Hua – doesn't sound so elegant for such a handsome guy, but he takes it with a smile.
M: How do you portray the role of a married man?
