Dear Dick,
I really appreciate your devotion to Taiwan’s mountain rescue training. Several years ago, OYoung shared with us how he invited you and Steve in America. “It was a miracle!” I thought in my mind. “God must have sent you and Steve here!” The first time I saw you, I thought you were Santa Clause!
In the training session, I learnt a lot from your “strict” and humorous teaching. Whenever the training program begins, you and Steve patiently guide us review the knots. I am not good at knots, but after your clear explanation, I could enjoy in tighting those complicated knots! You showed us how to tight knots again and again, making me think that knots are not troublesome any more!
On April,2007, Oyoung, Steve, you and me were on the way to the training location. I told you that there was SNOW in the mountains now. You doubted it. And I showed you the white flowers in the mountains. They are called “snow in May ”, because this kind of white flower bloom in May. Do you remember that?
I remember that when we went to Hualien, I didn’t finish my dinner and shared my rice with OYoung. You told everyone that you knew why I didn’t eat much, because you noticed that I ate a lot of delicious toasts in the car!! You observed quite well!! No wonder you are an excellent rescuer!
When you stayed in Taipei Youth Hostel(劍潭青年活動中心), you always went to the same breakfast stand. I was surprised that you said “dan-bing, do-jiang”(蛋餅、豆漿) to the clerk! After several days, the clerk knew your orders before you ask! And I remember the way you use chopsticks! The way you use them is better than me!
Remember every time after the training, Oyoung would take us to 85°C coffee shop. We would enjoy the relaxing time and the drinks. Your warm smile is always on my mind. You and Steve sow the seeds of mountain rescuing in Taiwan, and I believe these seeds would grow and bloom! Thanks again for your devotion to people in Taiwan!
Sincerely Yours,
